Choosing a Cadbury advent calendar

Cadbury’s chocolate advent calendars come in a few different styles. The main differences are what sits behind each door, how much chocolate there is in total, and which allergens are in the mix. Here’s how they compare, using the details Cadbury and UK supermarkets give.

The classic: Dairy Milk 90g

The Dairy Milk Advent Calendar 90g is the simple, traditional one, with a small festive-shaped Dairy Milk figure behind each door. Cadbury gives its nutrition figures per 3.75g piece, so each piece is small, and it is the lightest calendar in the range. Cadbury’s page doesn’t say how many doors there are: we’ve listed 24 because 90g divided by 3.75g is 24 and that’s the standard advent format, but check the pack.

Chunk calendars

Instead of moulded shapes, these have wrapped chunks:

For variety: Heroes 230g

The Heroes Advent Calendar 230g has a different Heroes mini behind each door — Cadbury mentions Twirl, Wispa, Eclairs, Fudge, Dinky Decker and Creme Egg Twisted among them. One Amazon listing shows a 232g “Advent-ure” version, so the weight may vary between versions: check it on the listing.

What to weigh up

  • Total weight. The calendars range from 90g to 348g, so they suit very different appetites and budgets.
  • Wrapped or not. Individually wrapped chunks are handy if a calendar is being shared.
  • Allergens. All of them contain milk. Wholenut chunks contain hazelnuts. Biscoff pieces contain wheat. Cadbury lists may-contain warnings for nuts, peanuts and wheat on the Heroes calendar. See our allergy and storage tips.
  • Timing. Advent runs from 1 to 24 December, and calendars are in the shops from the autumn. We can’t promise what will be in stock.

Keep calendars somewhere cool and dry — not next to a radiator or on a sunny windowsill.
